Haunted House 2008

Ginny Lloyd, Rhonda Attaway and Wendy Gerstenkorn volunteered this year to work at a Haunted House with proceeds benefiting two Special Olympics teams. They took tickets and entertained people before they went through the haunt. Additional volunteers scare throughout the haunt and help in other ways behind the scenes. Volunteers include some of the children and adults who participate in the Games and their families and friends. Our volunteers allowed to go through the haunt at the end of the night. It took 45 very frightful minutes! The Haunted House was such a BLAST we intend to make it an annual event.

Pokeeno Time!

We had a blast at Pokeeno! Rhonda Attaway's lovely home was the setting for an afternoon of friendly yet competitive rounds of Pokeeno. We played for prizes and cold hard cash. We all walked away a winner - except one poor name-less soul.

Pokeeno Party Date Change

We have changed the date for the Pokeeno Party! The new day and time is Sunday, August 24th, from 2:00-4:30. As a bonus, find a sister or sisters to carpool to Rhonda's. Riding together is a great way to chat, saves money and is better for the environment.

2008 National Convention & Leadership Conference

The ASA National Convention & Leadership Conference was held July 16 - 20 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Wednesday we registered and attended the kick-off speaker event. The first night the Dallas group went to dinner. Attending from Dallas Alumnae past and present were Kathy Messina, Leigh Ann Greathouse, Barb Lambrano-Williamson, Kim Benson, Debbie Craig, Monica Henson, Angela Bauldree, Ginny Lloyd, Bonita Maurer and Tanya Trumbla Brewer.

Thursday was a full day of workshops ranging from digital photography, finances and etiquette. During the evening free time, Kathy and I ventured into Old Town for a mexican dinner. We got caught in a sudden downpour with a group of collegiates as we waited for a bus. But it made it all the more fun.

Friday started the business meetings portion of the Convention and the day finished with The Red Tie Foundation dinner. We were all requested to wear an article of red clothing to the dinner. Our group picture was taken in the evening. The coordinating red made for a great picture. Kathy purchased an 8x10 photo for the scrapbook.

Saturday was another day of busniess meetings. We also witnessed the passing of the gavel to our new president Cindy Kelley. In the evening was our formal awards dinner. An exciting night for collegiate and alumnae chapters.

Sunday we went on balloon rides. I floated up in a real balloon after climbing into the little basket, which held just 4 riders. Too bad it was tethered and we only rose up about 50'.

The next Convention will be held in 2010 in Indianapolis, Indiana. September 2008 will be the dedicaton of our new headquarters in Indianapolis. November 8, 2008 will be District 7 District Day in Nashville, Tennessee.

It was a wonderful convention. Sisterhood is great! We are Alpha Sigma Alpha!

It's A Baby Shower

Carrie Wilson's Downtown loft was the setting for a baby shower honoring Adrienne Lindsey Zimmerman on April 19th, 2008. Wendy Partain Gerstenkorn, Jody Dodd McDaniel and Carrie Huddleston Wilson acted as hostesses. The theme was a lovely pink and green combination. Light chicken salad croissants, strawberry spinach salad and cherry white wine spritzer were served. The cake was a delicious strawberry layer cake topped with pink tulle created by Carrie Wilson.

Those in attendance included Jason Zimmerman, father-to-be, Carole Kearney, grandmother-to-be, Kara Kearney, aunt-to-be, and Amanda Henry, childhood friend.

Sorority sisters in attendance included (L-R) Rhonda Werner Attaway, Wendy Partain Gerstenkorn, Ginny Lloyd, Bonita MarniceMaurer, Jody Dodd McDaniel, Adrienne Lindsey Zimmerman, Kathy Messina, Carrie Huddleston Wilson, Nancy McCray, Laquita Lehmann Caruthers and Leigh Ann Greathouse.

There was much ooing and awing over the cuteness. A lovely time was had by all!
